The Motto:-

“Sradhaban Lavate Jnanam” enshrined in the college insignia means “He who has interest gets knowledge only”

The crest comprises five distinct symbols, the historic Temple of Maa Kichakeswari, two dancing peacocks, two Sal trees, Open Book and Lighted Lamp with Rising Bright Rays.

Temple of Maa Kichakeswari at Ancient Capital of Mayurbhanj i.e. Khijinga Mandal presently known as Khiching, peacock symbolizes the ancient Bhanj dynasty of Mayurbhanaj, Sal tree symbolizes the green environment of the district, The Open Book represents the eternal quest for knowledge,The Lighted Lamp symbolizes the rising Sun- infinite knowledge and wisdom.

Sukruli Degree College conducts its programs and activities guided by Mission, Vision and Goals. All are revisited periodically and revised if appropriate.

      Brief History of the College

      Sukruli Degree College was established on the historical date of 1st January 1992. Keeping in view to the educational status of the Block the local people of the area decided to establish a Degree College to quench the thirst of the needy and educationally back ward tribal students of the region. Under the collective effort and leadership of  9 enthusiastic educationists, social workers and champion of tribal interests some people congregated  on the memorable date i.e.01/01/1992 at Sukruli and decided to sacrifice their contribution to make the Block educationally developed.  The historical persons of that occasion were Sambhunath Naik (great organizer-leader of SUCI), Hrudananda Sahu (Retd Head Master), Kirtan Chandra Sahu (Retd Head Master), Bikram Keshari Giri(Retd Head Master),Ramakanta Giri(Advocate), Prasant Kumar Mohanty(Teacher), Pradip Kumar Palei, Antaryami Behera, Suresh Ch Mohakud, Sailesh Kumar Prusty, Eswar Ch. Bhol,  Madhusudan Sahu, Biren Kr. Bhoi, Dambarudhar Sahu, Jayakrushna Khuntia, Pratap Ch  Prusty, Dankania Hembram, Pravakar Behera, SK. Khusur Khan,Umakanta Behera and so many others of the locality. The effort was expedited by Mr. Prasant Kumar Mohanty being assisted by Ramakant Giri and Suresh Ch Mohakud. The then Irrigation Minister Govt of Odisha, Mr. Raghunath Hembram (MLA,Karanjia) and Mr. Chaitanya Prasad Majhi, Minister of Higher Education, Govt. of Odisha(MLA, Bangiriposhi) proved the best of their effort and interest  to establish this college. The contribution of these two great educationists’ of Mayurbhanj can never be forgotten by the generations to come in the future course of this college.  

      Sukruli Degree College is one of the premier educational institutions in the district of Mayurbhanj under Sukruli Block dominated by underdeveloped people of different cast, creed and color. It came into existence on 1st January of 1992 through the initiative of the local people keeping in mind the basic need of the area. Named after the name of the Block, it is located over an area of 05.5 acres of land in the revenue village of Sarubali and Pandarsil under Sukruli Tahasil and only 8 kms distance from National Highway No 49 connecting Kolkata and Chenai. It is situated at a distance of25 k.ms from Similipal National Park and 3 k.ms from the Historic Temple of Maa Kichakeswari, and 50 kms from Keonjhargarh railway station. It was an affiliated college of Utkal University till 2000. It is functioning as an affiliated institution under North Orissa University, Takatpur, Baripada since 2001. The college has submitted LOI to NAAC and IQUA under process.

      The Institution is an equal opportunity organization of higher learning and noted for dissemination of knowledge and skills in Humanities. The college is guided by the noble mission “Learning for Leadership”. It is engaged in preparing the talented youth as responsible and useful citizens by providing quality education through academic, cultural and physical activities.

      Over the years the Institution has in terms of infrastructure, Student enrolment and subject options. Needless to say, in keeping with its fast expansion as a premier co-educational institution, it has earned the reputation of attracting the largest no of students to its student friendly campus from all over the state and neighboring state Bihar and Jharkhand.

      The College imparting Regular course for the degree of Bachelor in Arts with Hons in History, Pol. Science, Economics, Education, Sanskrit and Philosophy. The opening of new course for the Degree of Science is pending with Govt and we expect to get permission to continue the said course from 2016-17 Education Year.
